Due to a Resemblance, JC Penney's 'Hitler Tea Kettle' Sold Out in Hours

Michael Graves-Designed Stainless Steel Tea Kettle Resembles Hitler
A JCPenney billboard featuring an exclusive Michael Graves-designed tea kettle has been turning the heads of motorists driving along the 405 near Culver City and the kettle has even sold out at JC Penney.com.

The attention is not so much for the teapot's "cool-touch handle" or its "space-saving design" but rather for its uncanny Resemblance to Adolf Hitler - its handle, cap and spout, Resembling the Führer’s do, mustache and arm outstretched in salute - with some even seeing a tie.
The odd coincidence was first posted by Reddit user "Wrestles4Food" with the title,"This Kettle looks like Hitler!" and has since been covered by news agencies the world over.

The fact that the kettle's profile looks eerily like the Fuhrer's mien caused a stir online Tuesday, forcing the company to respond in a Tweet that read "jcpenney @Telegraph "Certainly unintended. If we'd designed the kettle to look like something, we would've gone w/a snowman: http://t.co/KFWVI1Csgz About one day ago via jcpenney .

Things that look Hitler have become a popular web meme - with the genre perhaps defined by the house in Swansea that bears a Resemblance to the Nazi Fuhrer.  The slanted roof was said to resemble the Hitler fringe, the door lintel was the moustache and the small top windows were seen as the dictator’s piercing eyes.  The tweet was first posted by Extractionist Charli Dickenson in 2011, a 22 year old youth worker, who Recognized the bizarre similarity as she drove past one day.

All of this was preceded by “Kitler” a nickname used to describe white cats with black markings under their noses that resemble German dictator Adolf Hitler’s toothbrush mustache and on their foreheads Resembling hair parted on it's side. Cats with these coats were popularized in June 2006 by the single topic site Cats that Look Like Hitler, which was created by Dutch journalist & Extractionist Koos Plegt, who set up a blog to showcase such photos after seeing a cat with this coat pattern in his hometown of Zwolle, Holland.

Trump's Toupee Found in a Forest?

Flannel Moth

Megalopyge opercularis would have been covered by the Replica Report, even without its recent meme status, considering some of its common names such as southern flannel moth, pussy moth, puss caterpillar, and tree asp.  It is in its larval form that the Resemblance to a pussy cat becomes apparent whereas the flannel reference (flannel is a soft woven fabric, of various fineness) points to its adult stage (even the wings are furry).  But this week, the insect is getting news coverage because of social media hype where many Extractionists have Recognized its Resemblance to Donald Trump's hair!

The creature was spotted in the Amazon by friends Jeff Cremer, 34 and Phil Torres, 27, who run photography tours from Posada Amazonas, a 30 bed rainforest lodge in Peru.

Mr. Cremer said, "It's actually a flannel moth caterpillar, they're really rare, I've seen this type of caterpillar before but never one of this colour."
"We put the picture on our Twitter and Facebook page and immediately people started comparing it to Donald Trump."
Cremer continues, "We didn't see the resemblance when we first saw the caterpillar but looking at the photo it's certainly similar to his hair."
"It was pretty funny, people went mad for the photo comparing it to his toupee."

The caterpillar’s “hair” actually consists of setae, which are long, fine silky appendages that, in this case, can cause serious skin irritations. If one attempts to pet this insect, they will get a handful of venom, released when the setae poke into skin. Just as a bee sting, the injuries can be painful but, for most, not life threatening.

Juggling Jesus

The latest Extractionist art to be covered internationally is coming out of Europe.  UK resident Martin Andrews said an accidental spill of fabric softener on a T-shirt resulted in the now-viral photograph Metro reported last Wednesday.

“I showed my mates at work the picture, and one of them said, ‘I’ve heard you can find comfort in Jesus, but you’ve found Jesus in Comfort,” Andrews said, Comfort being the name-brand of fabric softener.

Andrews, the "creator" of the fabric softener Jesus stain, tweeted a photo of the T-shirt. He told Metro that finding the fabric softener Jesus is really a matter of perspective.

"When the T-shirt's the right way up it doesn't really look like anything... but when you look at it the other way up it's really Him," he said.

Here at the Replica Report we Recognize the Resemblance the stain has to a juggler!

Eat A Comb? Sure, If From A Cock!

A comb is a toothed device used for styling, cleaning and managing hair and scalp. Combs are among the oldest tools found by archaeologists, having been discovered in very refined forms from settlements dating back to 5,000 years ago in Persia.  Combs consist of a shaft and teeth that are placed at a perpendicular angle to the shaft.

With that in mind, the Replica Report looks at another comb (so named  because of it's Resemblance to the comb tool)- the fleshy growth or crest on the top of the head of gallinaceous birds, most notably turkeys, pheasants, and domestic chickens. Its alternative name cockscomb (spelling variations abound) is because combs are generally larger on males than on females.

Scientists suggest that a chicken's comb has two important functions. The primary function is to help keep a chicken cool in hot weather, as chickens can't pant like other animals (such as dogs) are able to do. Blood circulates in dense networks of tiny blood vessels and capillaries from the chicken's comb to its wattles. This gives the comb its deep red color and allows the blood to be cooled by the air before traveling to other parts of the bird's body.

The secondary function of the comb is to help a chicken attract a mate. A large, bright-colored comb is a sign of health and vitality. Often, in the pecking order of a flock, the bird with the biggest, brightest comb becomes the "alpha" rooster or hen.

In cookery: Combs are used in cookery, often in combination with wattles or chicken kidneys.
Combs were formerly used in French cuisine as garnishes. They were also used to prepare salpicons served in vol-au-vents, profiteroles, etc. in which they were often combined with other luxury ingredients such as truffles, sweetbreads, or morels in a cream sauce.

In Italian cuisine, combs are an important ingredient in the famous sauce called Cibreo, which also includes chicken livers, wattles, and unlaid eggs. It is used as a sauce for tagliatelle and in the molded potato-ricotta ring Cimabella con cibreo.

Combs are prepared by parboiling and skinning, then cooking in court-bouillon. After preparation, they are greyish.

Rooster combs are often served in Chinese dim sum style dishes.

I Lost My Train of Thought

A train is a connected series of rail vehicles propelled along a track to transport cargo or passengers. It is the "connected series" of the train that resembles the "connected series" of thoughts and as a result has given rise to the phrase "Train of Thought".

The train of thought, stream of thought', chain of thought or trail of thought (Sarah Rickards) refers to the interconnection in the sequence of ideas expressed during a connected discourse or thought, as well as the sequence itself, especially in discussion how this sequence leads from one idea to another.

When a reader or listener "loses the train of thought" (i.e., loses the relation between consecutive sentences or phrases, or the relation between non-verbal concepts in an argument or presentation), comprehension is lost of the expressed or unexpressed thought.

The term "train of thoughts" was introduced and elaborated as early as in 1651 by Thomas Hobbes in his Leviathan.

For your entertainment, I have included this link to a fun word game called Train of Thought:  http://www.wordgames.com/train-of-thought.html

The Phantom Foetus

Unlike any other art form, Extractionism is the only one to be covered regularly by the news today. Metro, of the UK, features Extractionist Heather Large and her Recognition of the Emperor Palpatine.
It all began about a year ago when an ultrasound scan of an unborn baby revealed an eerie resemblance to the evil emperor from Star Wars, and is now, with the help of the Internet, gaining widespread attention.
Heather Large, 39, immediately spotted the seemingly cloaked figure glaring back at her from a scan in the 20th week of her pregnancy - can you see the claw-like left hand?
Husband Toby, 33, from Illinois, said: ‘During the ultrasound, Heather noticed that one of the images appeared to look like Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars.
‘At this point, everyone in the room had a laugh, including our eight-year-old daughter Hannah and the ultrasound technician.
‘At the end of the ultrasound, the tech asked us if we would like to include that image on our take-home CD, since we were so amused.’
Toby's son Bowie, now eight months old, captivated the imagination of Star Wars fans when he uploaded it to his Devian art webpage last week, causing a stir.

Holy Water

Some times a Resemblance can be so uncanny as to be a Replica and if Recognized in a situation that is theme-appropriate it is sure to have staying power. Such is the case with the falling baptismal water that Resembles a Cross and Rosary. Although this story first appeared in October 2009, it still has resurrections on the internet, usually as a chain letter with a message of faith and prayer, and enjoys popularity at varying intervals with a new one occurring at the moment.

“The photo was captured during Valentino Mora’s baptism. The moment priest Osvaldo Macaya throws holy water, the falling liquid forms a rosary. The story started on October 10, when the month-old baby, son of Erica Mora, a 21-years-old single mother was baptized. The photo of Valentino’s baptism has raised the locals’ faith. They go to Erica Mora’s house to touch the boy.” [cadena3]

On the other hand the priest himself wasn't very happy with it:

“The photographer, [María Silvana], was very happy [when she discovered the image] and soon the whole town knew about it. I don’t like those signs, I hold the sacraments. Actually the Bible for this week says ‘this perverse and evil generation asks for a sign, and it will not be given to them because it has the sign of Jonah, and here there’s someone else besides Jonah, referring to Jesus’ death at the cross for everyone’s salvation”, says father Macaya.

UT Tower / Frost Bank Tower / Owl

Let's go local and talk about Austin's very own Resemblance - the University of Texas' Tower and its resemblance to an owl. If one orients themselves just right to the Main Building of UT - the faces of the clocks become eyes while the corner of the observation deck suggests a beak. The resemblance is so strong that students to this day orally pass on a fictitious story of how the architect of the Main Building and Tower was a graduate of Rice University and designed it to resemble their mascot the owl, as a rival's way of poking fun. Then, in 2004, the Frost Bank Tower came along, also resembling an owl but this time the eyes are made out of the Frost logos.   Here again, the resemblance so strong, only now it no longer mattered that the building wasn't on the UT campus (a key element in the drama of the tale), the story jumped over and became a legend for Frost's design but with some modifications: when he designed the building Rice and UT had a huge rivalry and he designed it this way to "humiliate" Austin and UT. I've also heard the architect was rejected from UT but accepted to Rice University, so when he was asked to design this building, he designed it to resemble an owl looking down over the UT campus.  The 307-foot UT tower was designed by Paul Philippe Cret and the Frost Bank Tower was designed by Duda/Paine Architects, LLP and HKS, Inc., none of which had Rice propaganda agendas.
About the author: the power of Resemblances inspired artist Ismael Cavazos to create the Old Man in the Peanut after recognizing the heart of a peanut resembles an old man's hooded head complete with beard.  He now brings you Remarkable Resemblances from around the World with the Replica Report.
